About Restate Cultura Borgo di Rango

A Sunday entirely dedicated to art transforms Rango, one of the most beautiful hamlets in the municipality of Bleggio Superiore, into an open-air gallery. At the heart of the event is the «Giulio Riccadonna» Art Prize, an open-theme painting and sculpture competition that brings works by diverse artists into the arcades, courtyards, and cellars of this Giudicarie Esteriori village. Alongside the competition, musical performances, exhibitions, and workshops bring the whole day to life in a festive and participatory atmosphere.

A village turned into an art gallery

Restate Cultura Borgo di Rango is the cultural event that enlivens Rango every summer, a hamlet in the municipality of Bleggio Superiore, in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Rango is a cluster of stone houses perched in the Giudicarie Esteriori, with its characteristic arcades (the portech), internal courtyards, and ancient cellars. For one day, this rural architectural fabric becomes part of the exhibition itself, hosting works of art beneath its vaults and archways.

The «Giulio Riccadonna» Art Prize

The heart of the event is the «Giulio Riccadonna» Art Prize, an open-theme painting and sculpture competition dedicated to the memory of Giulio Riccadonna, a local photographer and artist who passed away in 1988. The prize attracts artists with diverse sensibilities and backgrounds, whose works are evaluated by a committee chaired by art historian and critic Elisabetta Doniselli, joined by jurors such as artist Paolo Dalponte, journalist Fausta Slanzi, and the president of the Judicaria Ecomuseum, Carmela Bresciani.

Prizes and awards

  • First prize: 500 euros and a solo exhibition at the «Aldo Gorfer» Cultural Center in Canale di Tenno during the Christmas Markets.
  • Second prize: 300 euros.
  • Third prize: 200 euros.
  • Four special mentions: baskets of local products.

Music, exhibitions, and community

Beyond the competition, the day offers a rich, widespread program. «Gli Archi di Rango» bring live music—violin, viola, and piano—under the village vaults. The exhibitions «Jocalo – Juggling and Physics», dedicated to the bond between circus arts and science, and «BimbiArt», featuring works by the children of the Rango primary school, complete an offer designed for all ages, along with the mural trail created by the artist Balbido.

A community event

The event is promoted by the Pro Loco Borgo di Rango in collaboration with the Municipality of Bleggio Superiore, with the aim of enhancing the cultural, artistic, and social heritage of the Giudicarie territory. It is a free event open to everyone, combining art, tradition, and a sense of community in one of the most evocative locations in Trentino.
