Two days of civic celebration featuring the Constitution, marching bands, and the Frecce Tricolori in Santo Pietro Belvedere
The Republic Day in Capannoli, a small town in the Province of Pisa tucked away in the hills of the Valdera region in Tuscany, is far from a standard, distant institutional ceremony. Thanks to initiatives organized by the Phophoros Association with the support of the Municipality, June 2nd becomes a community moment that brings together citizens, associations, and local institutions to honor the values of the Constitution, civic participation, and historical memory.
The program is divided into two distinct events. The first takes place in the charming Piazza Belvedere, in the hilltop village of Santo Pietro Belvedere, a historic district of Capannoli; the second moves to the spacious Aviosuperficie Valdera, an ideal venue for large crowds and spectacular displays. This format perfectly blends the intimate charm of a small village with the openness of an outdoor event designed for the entire community.
The symbolic heart of the event is the presentation of a copy of the Italian Constitution to local youths turning eighteen, marking their entry into the country's civic and democratic life. The initiative, titled «Viva la Repubblica», is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the constitutional referendum and concludes with a social gathering in collaboration with the Circolo Arci Belvedere.
The second day features a parade by the Belvedere Band and the participation of the Youth City Council, highlighting the community's focus on the younger generation. At the Aviosuperficie Valdera, the sky provides one of the most anticipated moments: the flyover of the Frecce Tricolori, which transforms a civic anniversary into a shared emotional experience. There is also space for a meeting dedicated to the Mothers of the Republic and the contribution of the women of the Constituent Assembly, reaffirming the importance of historical memory.
Far from the formal celebrations of big cities, the Republic Day in Capannoli shows how a small Valdera community can make a national holiday feel vibrant and inclusive. Between music, reflection, and conviviality, it is an authentic opportunity to discover Santo Pietro Belvedere and the warmth of lesser-known Tuscany.
The 2026 edition, organized by the Phophoros Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Capannoli, celebrated the 80th anniversary of the constitutional referendum with two days dedicated to the values of the Republic. The program combined the civic intimacy of the village of Santo Pietro Belvedere with the outdoor spectacle at the Aviosuperficie Valdera.
