Aosta Valley Craftssmanship Celebrated

The Rencontre des Artisans de la Vallée is one of the most important craft fairs in the Aosta Valley. It is held in Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, a municipality in the Province of Aosta nestled in the Val di Rhêmes, in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The first edition dates back to 1986, when the event was born as "Rencontre des artisans de l'haute Vallée" with the participation of a few dozen Aosta Valley artisans.

Over a Hundred Artisans

Today, the fair attracts more than a hundred exhibitors from all over the region, who display and sell their handmade creations rooted in tradition along the village streets: wood carvings, wrought iron, soapstone objects, leatherwork, linen and hemp textiles, cutting boards, antique agricultural tools, furniture, toys, and traditional masks. Throughout the day, live demonstrations of the crafts can be admired, with artisans at work before the public.

A Sunday of Crafts and Flavours

The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, is much more than a fair: it is a day of celebration that honours the identity and knowledge of a mountain land. Awards along the exhibition route conclude the day, while Aosta Valley flavours accompany visitors. The natural setting of the Val di Rhêmes, one of the most authentic and preserved valleys in Gran Paradiso, makes the Rencontre a unique event of its kind.
