Since 1950 the great Friulano wine festival in Medio Friuli
In Bertiolo, a municipality in Medio Friuli in the province of Udine, wine is a matter of identity. Since 1950, the town has hosted the Regional Friulano Wine Festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine events in Friuli Venezia Giulia, capable of attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors from all over the region for three weekends in March.
The heart of the festival is the historic "Bertiûl tal Friûl" Wine Competition Exhibition, now in its 43rd edition, which compares the best productions from local wineries. Along the streets and courtyards of the town, food stalls open up where you can taste the wines in the competition, particularly the Friulano DOC, accompanied by traditional Friulian dishes.
In addition to wine, the program is very rich: craft markets, art exhibitions, cultural events, itinerant shows, concerts, DJ sets, comedy, and live music. During the day, there is space for sports, vintage rallies, cars, and bicycles, while for families there are creative workshops, children's shows, and green initiatives. Every year the "Friulano DOC" award celebrates a personality linked to the territory.
Organized by the Pro Loco Risorgive Medio Friuli with the support of the Municipality of Bertiolo, the festival has obtained the "Quality Festival" recognition from UNPLI. A mark that rewards authenticity, care for tradition, and the quality of hospitality in one of the most distinctive festivals in the Friulian plain.
The 2026 edition, the 77th, of the Regional Friulano Wine Festival in Bertiolo takes place from March 14 to 29, over three weekends. The protagonists are the region's DOC wines and the historic "Bertiûl tal Friûl" Wine Competition Exhibition, now in its 43rd edition with 74 participating wineries.
The festival officially kicks off on Saturday, March 14 at 6:30 PM with the inauguration and the awards ceremony for the competing wineries. Among food stalls, concerts, markets, sports, and family events, the "Friulano DOC" Award 2026 is presented to the Friulian writer Ilaria Tuti.
