The Motorcycle World Championship returns to the Romagna Riviera at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli
The Red Bull San Marino and Riviera of Rimini Grand Prix is the Italian round of the Motorcycle World Championship (MotoGP) held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, in the Municipality of Misano Adriatico, province of Rimini, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna's Romagna Riviera. Every September, the circuit opens its gates to tens of thousands of enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad to experience the thrill of two-wheeled racing up close.
Inaugurated in 1972 and extensively renovated over the years, the track spans 4.23 km with 16 corners (10 right and 6 left) run in a clockwise direction, featuring a main straight of over 500 meters. Since 2012, it has been named after Marco Simoncelli, the rider from Coriano who passed away in 2011, and represents a place of strong symbolic value for the Italian motorcycle racing scene. The venue's capacity exceeds 60,000 spectators, and during the race weekend, the entire Riviera buzzes with the sound of engines.
The event follows the classic three-day Motorcycle World Championship format: Friday is dedicated to free practice and practice sessions for all classes, Saturday features qualifying and the MotoGP Sprint race, and Sunday includes warm-up sessions and the races for Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP. The MotoE Cup races and numerous entertainment activities in the paddock and public areas complement the program.
The Grand Prix is more than just a sporting event; it's an occasion that boosts the tourism economy of the Riviera between Riccione, Cattolica, Misano, and Rimini, with full hotels and a festive atmosphere that animates the coastline. For Emilia-Romagna, the land of engines and the homeland of the Motor Valley, the Misano round is a symbol of regional identity, capable of uniting sporting passion with traditional Romagna hospitality.
