The traditional Lucanian pasta celebrated in the Pollino Park
In the heart of the Pollino National Park, the Potentino village of Fardella preserves a signature dish: raskatielli di miskiglio. This is fresh pasta handmade with "miskiglio," the ancient blend of poor cereal flours typical of Lucanian peasant cuisine. It's an essential and robust flavor that the Ministry has recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product of Basilicata.
The Raskatielli di Miskiglio Festival celebrates this dish every year on August 18th and is one of the longest-running events in the area; in 2025, it marked its 45th edition. The day revolves around preparing the sauce and fresh pasta workshops, where adults and children learn to make raskatielli using techniques passed down by the village women.
Despite the village's size, the festival achieves significant numbers: in the 2025 edition, approximately 3,000 plates of raskatielli were served, demonstrating the event's appeal to visitors from across the entire Pollino region. The celebration is rounded out by evenings of Lucanian folk music, which liven up the Miskiglio hamlet until late at night.
Organized by the Pro Loco APS Fardella, the festival is much more than a gastronomic event; it's a moment for the community to rediscover and pass on ancient knowledge, bringing together residents, returning emigrants, and curious visitors around a dish that tells the story of an entire valley.
In 2026, the Raskatielli di Miskiglio Festival returns to Fardella on August 18th, adhering to the fixed date that tradition has established over the years. Following the 45th edition in 2025, the event continues with its usual format: sauce preparation, fresh pasta workshops open to everyone, raskatielli tasting, and an evening of Lucanian folk music in the Miskiglio hamlet.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the weeks prior by Pro Loco APS Fardella. The established structure of the festival includes:
How to get there: Fardella is accessible by car from the SS 653 della Valle del Sinni, in the Potentino Pollino area.
Location: Miskiglio hamlet of Fardella. Stands and workshops throughout the day.
Admission: Free entry; raskatielli tastings are paid at the stands.
