Floats, masks, and traditions through the streets of Raffadali

The Raffadali Carnival is one of the most cherished events in Raffadali, a lively town of about 12,000 residents nestled in the hills of the province of Agrigento, in Sicily. During the Carnival days, the town comes alive with colors, confetti, and music: the historic center's streets fill with masks, and the festivities reach their peak in Piazza Progresso, the town's most iconic square, overlooked by the Montaperto castle and the Mother Church.
The program centers on the parade of allegorical floats, carefully crafted by local paper-mรขchรฉ artists and associations, accompanied by masked groups and numerous school classes that enliven the procession with costumes and choreography. The parade travels along the town's main streets before converging in the square, where shows, performances, and entertainment for all ages take place.
The Raffadali Carnival has a deeply family-friendly soul: plenty of space is reserved for children, with games, entertainment, and dedicated activities, so much so that some editions have been designed specifically as a grand party for the little ones. The participation of local schools makes the event a collective experience deeply rooted in the life of the community.
As throughout Sicily, in Raffadali, Carnival is accompanied by traditional seasonal sweets, from fritters to fried pastries that scent the squares. The town is also known for its gastronomic tradition linked to almonds and pistachios, iconic products of the Agrigento territory, which provide a natural backdrop to local popular festivals.
Far from the crowds of the major Sicilian carnivals in Acireale or Sciacca, the Raffadali Carnival preserves the authentic and genuine dimension of a small-town festival: an opportunity to discover the hospitality of the Agrigento province, experience the carefree atmosphere of the decorated streets, and immerse yourself in a popular tradition passed down from generation to generation.
The 2026 edition of the Raffadali Carnival continues the carnival tradition of Raffadali, featuring the parade of allegorical floats, masked groups, and the participation of local schools. Official dates and the detailed program have not yet been published: the festival will take place as usual in the heart of the town and in Piazza Progresso. Updates are shared through the official channels of the Municipality and the dedicated Facebook page.
