Cinema, music, art, and culture in the Chiostro di Santa Maria di Castello
Radici Urbane Festival is a multidisciplinary event held in the heart of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region. Established in 2025 by the APS Requiem For a Film, the festival brings together cinema, visual arts, literature, and food and wine in a single program, aiming to celebrate shared culture and strengthen the bond with the area's artistic and social identity.
The heart of the event is the Chiostro di Santa Maria di Castello, one of the city's most fascinating historical sites, which transforms into a sprawling stage for several nights. Starlit screenings, concerts, DJ sets, readings, and debates take place among the cloister's arches, inviting the public to experience the historic center of Alessandria in an unusual and vibrant way.
The program ranges from open-air cinema, featuring major titles and a short film competition, to live music and DJ sets that keep the evenings going until late at night. Significant space is dedicated to meetings with writers, authors, and voices from the Italian cultural scene, as well as discussions on the cultural development of the territory.
Alongside the cultural offerings, Radici Urbane features an area dedicated to food and wine: stands with local products, street food, and regional wines accompany the evenings, in line with the festival's mission to highlight local roots. A charity dinner supporting the cloister completes the preview events.
Radici Urbane Festival is an opportunity to discover the cultural scene of Alessandria in an intimate, high-quality setting where art, music, and conviviality meet. An event that, in just a few editions, has become a reference point for the local public and those visiting Piedmont in search of authentic cultural experiences.
After its 2025 debut, Radici Urbane Festival returns to Alessandria for its second edition, from June 15th to 21st, 2026. The previews (June 15-18) feature open-air cinema screenings in Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, the presentation of short films in competition, and a charity dinner supporting the cloister. The heart of the festival is concentrated in the three days from June 19th to 21st, in the Chiostro di Santa Maria di Castello.
The program alternates music, DJ sets, literary meetings, debates, and evening screenings, accompanied by a food area with local products, street food, and regional wines. An edition that confirms the festival's vocation to unite different artistic languages and enhance the cultural identity of Alessandria and Piedmont.
The festival takes place in the Chiostro di Santa Maria di Castello, in Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, Alessandria, in the historic center. By train, Alessandria station is reachable from major cities in Piedmont and Lombardy; from the station, the cloister is a short walk away. By car, take the A21 (Turin-Piacenza) or A26 motorway; we recommend using the city center parking lots.
Admission to many initiatives is free; some events (headline concerts and the charity dinner) are ticketed or require reservations via Eventbrite. We recommend checking the program and tickets on the festival's official channels.
