About Quatar Pass Timurass

Quatar Pass in Derthona Timurass is the grand itinerant festival dedicated to Timorasso white wine, set in the heart of the Tortona Hills. For one full day, over fifty local producers open their cellar doors: with an official glass and holder provided, you can freely drive along the suggested routes, tasting Derthona right where it is born. In Carezzano, at the Pro Loco, one of the four communal tasting stations is set up, serving as an ideal stop to comfortably sample many local labels.

A journey through Timorasso in the Tortona Hills

Quatar Pass in Derthona Timurass is one of the most beloved wine events in south-eastern Piedmont, entirely dedicated to Timorasso, the native grape variety that gives life to Derthona, one of Italy's great white wines. The format is that of an open-cellar trail: for a full day, over fifty producers from the Tortona area throw open their doors to welcome visitors, sharing their craft and offering tastings of the many nuances of this extraordinary wine, directly in the places where it is produced.

Carezzano, a stop on the festival trail

The small town of Carezzano, in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, is one of the key hubs of the event. Here, at the Pro Loco of Carezzano, one of the four communal tasting stations is set up, where you can comfortably sample various labels in a single location, without having to travel from cellar to cellar. Nestled among the vineyards of the Tortona hills, Carezzano perfectly embodies the spirit of the event: territory, hospitality, and wine culture. Producers operating in the Carezzano area include estates like Oltretorrente and La Morella, which represent the new vitality of Derthona.

How it works

With your participation fee, you receive the event's official glass and a convenient glass holder bag, which will accompany you throughout the day. From there, you are free to build your own itinerary among the participating wineries, driving along the suggested routes and stopping at the four communal tasting stations set up across the territory:

  • Pro Loco in Carezzano
  • Villa Cerruti in Avolasca
  • L'Osservatorio in Casasco
  • Cantina Ezio Poggio in Vignole Borbera

Tastings are free at all participating wineries and communal stations: a unique opportunity to meet the winemakers up close and discover the many interpretations of Derthona, from the youngest and freshest to the most mature and structured.

More than just wine

Quatar Pass is also a complete food and wine experience, where Timorasso meets the traditional dishes of the Tortona Hills. The event, promoted by the Urban Trade District of Tortona, has been a reference point for years for enthusiasts and members of associations like Slow Food, AIS, FISAR, and ONAV, yet it remains open to anyone wishing to discover one of Italy's wine excellences in its original landscape. The day concludes with the Quinto Pass, the evening social gathering featuring food and music.
