The road race that runs through the heart of Putignano
Putignano on the Road is the autumn road running event that draws athletes from all over Puglia to the historic center of Putignano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari renowned for its carnival and caves. Originally launched as Nadir on the Road and now known by the town's name, the event is organized by A.S.D. Nadir On The Road with the patronage of the Municipality of Putignano and the Puglia Region.
The core of the event is the 10 km competitive race, featuring a course measured and certified by FIDAL judges. The route is completely closed to traffic, well-marked, and monitored by law enforcement, Civil Protection, and volunteers. The race is part of the Corripuglia circuit, the regional road running championship that connects major Puglian races across Bari, Lecce, Foggia, and Salento, attracting registered athletes from numerous local running clubs every year.
Alongside the competitive event, Putignano on the Road offers an 8 km non-competitive fun run, designed for families, walkers, and enthusiasts who want to experience a sporting celebration without the pressure of a stopwatch. Water stations are provided along the route, leading participants to the finish line where the awards ceremony takes place.
More than just a race, Putignano on the Road is a moment of gathering that blends competition with conviviality. The race passes through the town's most iconic spots and involves the entire local community, confirming Putignano's sporting spirit, which also hosts the historic Marcialonga di San Giuseppe and the 6 Ore di San Giuseppe. Every October, the event transforms the streets of this Bari town into a long ribbon of runners.
The 14th edition of Putignano on the Road will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in the center of Putignano, in the province of Bari. A.S.D. Nadir On The Road brings back the road race that combines the 10 km competitive trial, certified by FIDAL and part of the regional Corripuglia circuit, with the non-competitive fun run open to families and enthusiasts.
The course winds through the streets of the historic center and the surrounding countryside, with the start and finish line on Corso Umberto I. Details regarding times, the final route, and registration will be communicated by the organizers. Refreshment stations along the route and the final awards ceremony are confirmed.
Putignano can be reached by car via the SS100 Bari-Taranto road (take the Putignano exit), or by train via the Ferrovie del Sud Est (Bari-Martina Franca-Taranto line), with the Putignano station located just minutes from the center. The nearest airport is Bari-Palese (Karol Wojtyła), approximately 55 km away.
The entry fee includes the race pack. Registrations are handled through A.S.D. Nadir On The Road ([email protected]) and FIDAL-affiliated clubs. The start and meeting point are in the center of Putignano, on Corso Umberto I.
Arrive early to collect your race pack. Make the most of the day by exploring the historic center and tasting the typical products of the Bari Murgia.
