An evening of brass band music in Nova Levante

The Procession and Evening Concert of the Musikkapelle Welschnofen is one of the most cherished summer events in Nova Levante/Welschnofen, a mountain village in the Val d'Ega (Eggental), in the Province of Bolzano, nestled at the foot of the Catinaccio/Rosengarten massif. The evening combines two hallmarks of South Tyrolean musical tradition: the festive band parade through the village streets (the Einzug) and the open-air evening concert.

How the evening unfolds

As dusk falls, the audience gathers in the town center: the Musikkapelle Welschnofen, dressed in traditional costumes, sets off in a procession from Cafè Tyrol, marching through the streets of Nova Levante to the square in front of the Haus der Dorfgemeinschaft (the village community center). Here, the concert begins, alternating between the classic repertoire of Alpine brass music—marches, polkas, and waltzes—and more contemporary light music arrangements. Participation is free, and no reservation is needed: simply show up in the square.

A band with deep roots

The Musikkapelle Welschnofen traces its origins back to the mid-19th century and has since accompanied the life of the village, marking religious festivals, civic anniversaries, and summer events with over eighty performances a year. Today, it boasts around fifty active musicians, including brass and percussion players, and stands as one of the most deeply rooted cultural institutions in the Nova Levante community. The late-summer evening concert is one of its most anticipated occasions, a moment when the band performs in full formation, led by its flag-bearers and conductor.
