A day of nature, history, and sport in the hills of the Pinerolo area
The Prarostino Spring Fair is one of the most cherished events in the spring calendar of this small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, set in the hills overlooking the Val Pellice in Piedmont. It is organized by the local branch of the National Alpini Association, which has spent years dedicated to creating a day designed for the whole family, combining conviviality, local flavors, sports, and historical memory. The fair is held under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin.
The heart of the fair is the local produce market, a showcase for the food, wine, and artisan excellence of Prarostino and its surroundings. There is also an animal exhibition that draws curious visitors of all ages, while children can enjoy games and the charming 'baptism of the saddle', their first contact with the world of horse riding. At noon, there is time for traditional conviviality with the Alpini lunch, an unmissable moment of the day.
Prarostino holds a strong identity linked to the Resistance: during the fair, it is possible to visit the Viticulture Museum and the exhibition "In the Hell of Dora", curated by the Labriola Documentation Center of Turin and dedicated to the history of the Nazi Dora-Mittelbau camp. The route is ideally linked to the Lighthouse of Freedom, a monument in the town dedicated to the Martyrs of the Resistance.
The sporting component is rich and varied: the "Prarostino in Vespa" rally, the non-competitive "Prarostino on the Move" walk, the bocce tournament for elementary school children, and shooting trials with the Roccapiatta Crossbowmen. A major highlight is the Marcello Jourdan Trophy, a trial competition part of the ASI circuit, featuring a challenging 12.3 km course through the town's hills. An event that, year after year, confirms Prarostino as a small jewel of Piedmont to be discovered in spring.
The Spring Fair traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of May, with some activities starting on the Saturday.
