Kids become firefighters for a day in Piazza Cavour, Trecate
Pompieropoli is the annual spring event that brings Piazza Cavour in the center of Trecate (Novara) to life. For one day, the square transforms into a child-sized fire station: a large circuit of challenges and simulations welcomes the little ones, who get to wear a helmet and become 'junior firefighters' for a day.
The heart of the event is the course set up in the square, where children face a series of challenges designed just for them: from climbing ladders and balance tests to crawling through tunnels and a final simulated fire-extinguishing task. All activities combine fun with learning essential risk prevention and safety rules, guided by volunteer firefighters who assist participants every step of the way.
Alongside the main circuit, the event offers other family-friendly spaces: the Italian Red Cross booth, where children can explore an ambulance and learn basic first aid, and a face painting corner that adds a splash of color to the festivities.
Pompieropoli is the result of a collaboration between Pro Loco Trecate, the Novara National Firefighters Association, and the local Italian Red Cross committee, with the patronage of the City of Trecate. The 'Pompieropoli' format is popular in many Italian cities, initiated by the National Fire Corps, and in Trecate, it has become a highly anticipated event for families in the West Ticino area and the wider Novara province in Piedmont.
With free admission and activities tailored for young children, Pompieropoli is the perfect way to spend a family day focused on play and safety awareness. It is a simple, engaging way to introduce children to the vital work of firefighters and rescue volunteers.
The third edition of Pompieropoli was held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Piazza Cavour, in the center of Trecate, with both morning and afternoon sessions. The event, organized by Pro Loco Trecate together with the Novara National Firefighters Association and the Italian Red Cross, featured the large obstacle course where children transformed into junior firefighters.
Alongside the course, the Red Cross area showcased how an ambulance works, and the face painting corner completed the family festivities.
Children wore helmets and tackled the circuit accompanied by volunteer firefighters, learning the rules of prevention and safety.
