Twelve days of culture, sport, and community in the Chisone and Germanasca Valleys
The Pomaretto Mountain Week is one of the most cherished summer events in the Chisone and Germanasca Valleys, located in the heart of the province of Turin and the Metropolitan City of Turin, in Piedmont. Created to give voice to the alpine identity of this valley corner, the event reached its 9th edition in 2026, establishing itself as a benchmark for those who love the mountains in all their forms: culture, sport, environment, science, and fine dining.
The central theme of the 2026 edition was "Being Community": an invitation to recognize ourselves as part of a fragile and precious territory, where the bond between people and places is the true strength of inhabited mountain regions.
For twelve days, the town of Pomaretto transforms into a widespread stage, with the sports complex pavilion serving as the festival's headquarters. All events are free to attend, designed to introduce residents, hikers, and tourists to the culture of the Cottian Alps.
The program alternates evenings of storytelling and film screenings with outdoor moments, tastings, and sporting activities, in a balance that makes the Mountain Week much more than just a simple festival.
The edition opened with the screening of the film "Minjar - Stories of people and food in the Chisone and Germanasca Valleys" and the documentary "Transhumant Civilizations" by Anna Kauber. Subsequent evenings featured book presentations and alpine expeditions, from Daniele Vallet's stories of Nepal to explorations of the Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru and the Everest pyramid. A highlight was the talk show on cross-country skiing with Stefania Belmondo, Olympic champion and icon of Piedmontese mountain sports.
Alongside cultural meetings, the festival offers a strong sporting and social component. The "Brewers among the Peaks" event brings craft beers, street food, and live concerts to Pomaretto, while the "En Charamlan" gourmet walk in Salza di Pinerolo combines hiking with valley flavors. There is also space for sports with the presentation of the "Soul of the Valleys" endurance trail and the inclusive "Let's Walk Together" hike, followed by a grand pasta party.
The 2026 edition also celebrated the centenary of the Chiabriera Dam (1926-2026) with guided tours, recalling the relationship between valley communities and major hydroelectric works. Closing the festival was the distinctive vintage truck rally with a tour to the foot of Monviso, a symbolic image of the bond between work, historic vehicles, and the alpine landscape.
Promoted by the Associazione Sviluppo Pomaretto with the patronage of the Piedmont Region, the Metropolitan City of Turin, and Uncem Piemonte, and the collaboration of CAI Val Germanasca, Pro Loco Pomaretto, and Cinema delle Valli, the Mountain Week is now an identity-defining event that enhances the territory and strengthens the sense of belonging of an entire valley.
