Summer fun for little ones arrives in Pinerolo with theatre, circus acts, and storytelling
Ciurma is the summer festival for children and families that the Municipality of Pinerolo, in the province of Turin, dedicates to its young citizens and the many visitors who flock to this Piedmontese city during the warmer months. The name evokes the world of adventure and seafaring: children become a true crew of acrobats, jugglers, actors, and explorers, ready to set sail for a summer filled with theatre, circus, and stories. The event is aimed at a crew aged 2 to 12, with activities tailored to different age groups.
The edition is divided into three distinct yet connected strands, allowing visitors to discover different parts of the city and the surrounding area:
The program alternates between moments of active participation, such as circus workshops where children can test their skills with balls, hoops, and silks, and shows to be enjoyed as a family at dusk. The evenings at Parco Corelli feature classics reimagined for younger audiences, while at the Castello di Miradolo, traditional Neapolitan puppet theatre and animated readings on the lawn create an intimate atmosphere, immersed in the historic greenery of the park.
Ciurma was born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Pinerolo, the Municipality of San Secondo di Pinerolo, the Fondazione Cosso – Castello di Miradolo, the Sportica association, the Family Centre, and local organizations dedicated to promoting reading. The stated goal is to reach new audiences through shared, high-quality, and accessible cultural experiences: many events are indeed free, while evening theatre performances maintain a symbolic and affordable price.
Nestled at the foot of the Cottian Alps, Pinerolo is one of the most vibrant cities in the province of Turin, rich in history, chivalric tradition, and green spaces. During the summer, the Ciurma festival highlights the city's parks and cultural venues, offering families a high-quality alternative for spending June and July weekends dedicated to play and creativity.
The 2026 edition opens on Saturday, 13 June, at the Villa Prever Park with the preview "Nascere nel corpo e nella mente", a free festival dedicated to children aged 0 to 6. From there, a widespread program begins, bringing theatre, circus, and animated readings to various locations in Pinerolo and San Secondo di Pinerolo until 2 August.
The festival confirms its three-section format, with events spread between late June and early August, designed to accompany families throughout the first part of the summer.
Pinerolo can be reached by train from Turin Porta Nuova (SFM2 line, approximately 40 minutes) and by car via the SP23 from the Piedmontese capital. The Castello di Miradolo is located in San Secondo di Pinerolo, a few kilometres from the city centre.
Circus workshops and Castello events are free (booking required for the Castello). Evening theatre shows are €5 per person, free for children aged 0 to 3. Telephone information available from 5:00 PM on event days at +39 349 7341145.
