Three evenings of pizza, music, and the sea at Marina di Meta
Pizza d'aMare is the premier food and wine event that, every year between late May and the start of summer, brings the Marina di Meta to life in the town of Meta (Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania). For three consecutive evenings, the small port of the Sorrento Peninsula fills with ovens, tasting stalls, and stages. Local historic pizzerias and restaurants line up along Via Alfonso Caruso, allowing the public to stroll between stands with the sea just a few meters away.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Terra delle Sirene in collaboration with the Municipality of Meta, with support from the Metropolitan City of Naples. Launched in 2022 with just eight pizzerias and two nights, it has grown rapidly; today, it involves seventeen local establishments and attracts thousands of visitors from across the province of Naples and the nearby Amalfi Coast.
The formula is simple and beloved: purchase a tasting ticket to gain access to the participating pizzerias. Each pizzeria serves its own signature margherita and at least one special pizza, turning the experience into a journey through the various schools of Campanian pizza: the tall, fluffy crust of the Neapolitan tradition, lighter contemporary versions, and the historic pizza-by-the-meter of the Sorrento Peninsula.
Pizza d'aMare is about more than just food. The evenings are accompanied by live music and DJ sets, featuring folk groups and traditional singers who bring the sounds of Southern Italy to the waterfront. In recent years, the event has featured live radio broadcasts from Radio Ibiza, which transmits from the marina throughout the festival. The grand finale is a fireworks show on the final night, illuminating the sky and the water in front of the beach.
One of the most successful features is Pizza Junior, a free workshop reserved for children aged 6 to 11. Guided by professionals from a local cooking school, the young participants discover ingredients, knead dough, add toppings, oversee the baking, and finally taste their own creations. Participants receive a kit including a t-shirt, apron, and pizza chef hat. Spots are limited, and booking via the Pro Loco website is mandatory.
Meta is one of the smallest towns on the Sorrento Peninsula, nestled between Piano di Sorrento and Vico Equense, yet it boasts an ancient maritime tradition: this is where the sailing ships that once crossed the Mediterranean were built, and its marina remains one of the most picturesque spots on the gulf. The Alimuri beach, the seaside resorts, and the waterfront promenade provide a natural backdrop for the event, which effectively kicks off the coastal tourist season.
The event holds significant value for the area: it promotes pizza produced on the Peninsula, supports local pizza makers and restaurateurs, and draws visitors during the period leading up to the peak of summer. It is no coincidence that Pizza d'aMare has established itself as one of the most popular pizza festivals in Campania, a region where pizza is not just a dish, but a piece of collective identity recognized by UNESCO.
Visitors arriving at the Marina di Meta during these evenings will find a contemporary take on a traditional village festival: families with children, groups of friends, tourists already staying on the coast, the scent of wood-fired ovens, and music drifting toward the beach. You can eat standing up or seated at tables set up on the pier, chat with the pizza makers, watch the sunset, and wait for the fireworks. It is the most direct way to understand why, in Campania, pizza is a serious business and a celebration all at once.
From May 19 to 21, 2026, the Marina di Meta hosted the fifth edition of Pizza d'aMare, organized by the Pro Loco Terra delle Sirene and the Municipality of Meta with support from the Metropolitan City of Naples. Seventeen local establishments, including historic pizzerias and restaurants, set up their stations along the port, offering margheritas, gourmet pizzas, and house specialties.
The special guest of the edition was Errico Porzio, one of the most popular pizza makers on the contemporary scene, who brought his interpretation of authentic Neapolitan pizza to Meta. There was also a gluten-free corner, managed by Artigiani Scotto, featuring gluten-free pizzas and desserts.
The first two evenings were accompanied by the Compagnia Paganese with the show Canti del Sud Italia (Songs of Southern Italy), while on Thursday, May 21, the Spettacolo Folk Transumante (Transhumant Folk Show) by Donne Folk – Mulieres Garganiche, led by Valentina Latiano, took the stage. For all three nights, Radio Ibiza broadcast live from the marina with their DJ sets. The event concluded on Thursday, May 21 at 11:30 PM with a fireworks display offered by the CTM consortium, which illuminated the sky and the sea of Meta.
Among the seventeen participants: Pizzeria Tico Tico, Lieve Pizzeria, Pizza Express, Pizzeria Zio Sam, Il Ruttino, Ristorante Ninuccio, Ind o' Stritt, Pizza a Metro – L'Università della Pizza, Artigiani Scotto (gluten-free corner), and other establishments from the Sorrento Peninsula.
