The grand magic and illusion show at the Piccolo Teatro Bolognini
Every year, Pistoia Magic brings the timeless charm of illusionism to the heart of this Tuscan city. Launched in 2015, the event has grown with each edition to become a highly anticipated, recognized fixture, attracting over a thousand spectators and establishing itself as one of the premier magic shows in central Italy. The festival takes place at the Piccolo Teatro Mauro Bolognini, located in the historic center of Pistoia, in the heart of the Pistoia Province in Tuscany.
Pistoia Magic is more than just a series of magic tricks; it is a true theatrical production, with a narrative direction that weaves together illusions, comedy, and poetry. The stage hosts a mix of Italian magicians and international guests, featuring card magic, grand illusions, sleight of hand, and moments of audience interaction. The show is suitable for all ages, from children to adults, aiming to evoke the same sense of wonder in everyone.
Over the years, the event has expanded to create the broader Pistoia Cittร Magica (Pistoia Magic City) project, which brings magic beyond the theater walls through street performances in the historic center, immersive experiences, and city-wide initiatives. The project is supported by the Fondazione Caript, the Polo Culturale Puccini Gatteschi, and the Municipality of Pistoia, confirming the initiative's deep roots in the local cultural fabric.
The heart and creator of Pistoia Magic is the magician Francesco Micheloni, a leading figure in the Pistoian magic scene, supported in recent years by a narrative direction team that gives the show a unique thematic thread each time. This directorial attention to detail is what distinguishes Pistoia Magic from standard magic galas, turning every edition into a themed journey.
The 12th edition of Pistoia Magic, titled "The Enchanted Cities," brought a journey of wonder and fantasy to the stage of the Piccolo Teatro Bolognini, inspired by Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities." An immersive set design transformed the theater into a universe in constant metamorphosis, evoking memory, desire, time, imagination, and identity. The show, suitable for the whole family, was a great success with the public, with performances selling out.
The stage featured Francesco Micheloni (creator of the show), Francesco Fontanelli (world champion of card magic), Dong Ni & Pau Borrell from Spain, Nick Blaze (manipulation), Il Mago Leo, and Tiziano Cellai. The narrative direction was handled by Simone Venturi.
