Pisa's premier jazz festival under the stars at Giardino Scotto
Pisa Jazz Rebirth is the cornerstone of the Pisa Jazz project and the premier summer event dedicated to jazz in the city of Pisa, Tuscany. Every July, the Giardino Scotto, a charming historical garden overlooking the Lungarno Fibonacci, becomes an open-air stage hosting international stars, Italian masters, and emerging talents. The festival is organized by the Pisa Jazz Association under the artistic direction of Francesco Mariotti, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Pisa, and the Pisa Foundation.
The 2026 edition is titled "Milestones", a tribute to the iconic Miles Davis album, marking the centennial of the birth of two jazz giants: Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The main program takes place at Giardino Scotto from July 5th to 14th, 2026, with over thirty concerts spread across various city locations throughout the month.
Featured artists include Paolo Fresu, who opens the festival on July 5th with "Kind of Lives," a project dedicated to the legacy of Miles Davis, the Immanuel Wilkins Quartet, Kurt Rosenwinkel with "The Remedy," Shai Maestro, The Bad Plus, and the legendary Dee Dee Bridgewater with her show "We Exist!". The lineup also features exceptional ensembles such as "First Meeting," bringing together Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chris Potter, Larry Grenadier, and Eric Harland.
The festival extends beyond traditional jazz: the July calendar at Giardino Scotto also embraces world music, folk, and global sounds. Highlights include Bombino with his Malian desert blues, Enzo Avitabile alongside Tony Esposito, The Heliocentrics, and American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, performing "Flying With Angels" on July 25th. This diverse program turns Giardino Scotto into a vibrant crossroads of musical languages.
Launched in 2021 as part of the Pisa Jazz project, the festival has grown into one of Tuscany's most significant summer music events, attracting both national and international audiences to Pisa. With its evening atmosphere set among historic walls and lush greenery, Giardino Scotto offers a unique backdrop: for those visiting Pisa in summer, Pisa Jazz Rebirth is the perfect opportunity to discover a city that, beyond its famous Leaning Tower, boasts a lively and sophisticated cultural scene.
