A pink-themed walk through the streets of Quarrata for International Women's Day
The Pink Walk is the event with which the Municipality of Quarrata, in the heart of the Pistoia province and Tuscany, celebrates International Women's Day every year. An integral part of the "Not Just March 8th" program, the event transforms the town center into a long pink-hued procession, where sports, social life, and civic engagement walk side by side. The initiative is organized by the Municipality together with the ASD Podistica Quarrata, a historic local running club.
The heart of the event is a non-competitive walk of about five kilometers, open to citizens of all ages and fitness levels. The route starts from Piazza della Vittoria, winds through the streets of Quarrata's center, and reaches Villa Medicea La Magia — a 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in greenery — before returning to the starting point. This is not a race: the pace is one of conviviality, chatting together, and sharing an afternoon in the open air.
Participants are asked to wear something pink, the color symbolizing the event, and upon registration, they receive a pink cap as a souvenir of the edition.
Before the start, in Piazza della Vittoria, there is a moment of reflection and discussion dedicated each year to a different theme related to women's status and social issues. The square also hosts information points for local non-profit organizations: among many, the Italian Red Cross, Auser of Quarrata, the Employment Center, and various social cooperatives and volunteer associations, which offer guidance, support, and services to the community.
The Pink Walk is a completely free event, designed to be accessible to everyone. More than just a simple walk, it has become a community occasion over the years: a way to reaffirm, by walking together, values such as equality, inclusion, and solidarity, in an appointment that every spring unites sports and civic commitment in the streets of Quarrata.
The 2026 edition of the Pink Walk, the third of the event, took place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Quarrata, on the eve of International Women's Day. The meeting was set for 2:00 PM in Piazza della Vittoria, with the walk starting at 3:00 PM.
The theme of the edition, "Every age is a dream: walking towards new opportunities," guided the moment of reflection in the square. The non-competitive walk of about 5 kilometers crossed the center of Quarrata to the Villa Medicea La Magia, before returning to the starting point. The square hosted information stands from numerous non-profit organizations, including the Italian Red Cross, Auser, the Employment Center, and various social cooperatives.
