The historic September fair of Casalguidi, one of the oldest in Tuscany
The Casalguidi Fair is one of the longest-running and most cherished events in Tuscany. Its origins date back to the second half of the 19th century, when a committee of merchants and artisans organized a livestock fair in the church square of Casalguidi in 1885. The event was such a success that the local municipality decided to make it an annual occurrence. Since then, the Fair has never stopped, evolving with each edition while remaining deeply rooted in its rural and popular soul.
Casalguidi is a district of the Municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese, in the Province of Pistoia, located in the heart of the plains between Pistoia and Montalbano. Here, for a week in September, Piazza Antonio Gramsci and the surrounding streets become the stage for a grand village festival that involves the entire community.
The Fair has successfully grown by maintaining its commercial and social roots while expanding its offerings to include culture, shows, and entertainment. The typical program covers several areas:
The Fair traditionally concludes with a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the sky over Casalguidi, bidding farewell to another edition and looking forward to the next year. It is the most anticipated moment, drawing thousands of people to the town's squares and streets.
More than just a fair, it is a collective ritual that tells the story of the identity of Casalguidi and Serravalle Pistoiese: an opportunity to gather, rediscover the flavors and crafts of the Pistoia region, and pass down a tradition that spans generations. For those visiting Tuscany in September, it offers an authentic window into village life, far from the major tourist circuits.
The 141st edition of the Casalguidi Fair is scheduled for September 2026 in the historic center of Casalguidi, a district of Serravalle Pistoiese (Province of Pistoia). The event maintains the well-established structure of recent editions: evenings of live music in Piazza Gramsci, food stalls with traditional Tuscan flavors, exhibitions of embroidery, bonsai, photography, and painting, sports activities, and craft stalls along the village streets.
The detailed program of shows and concerts is usually announced in the weeks leading up to the event by the Fair Committee and the Municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese. This page will be updated with the full calendar as soon as it is published.
