About Florence Marathon

The Estra Florence Marathon is the premier international marathon in the Tuscan capital: 42.195 km winding through the heart of Florence, passing Piazza del Duomo, the Lungarni, Ponte Vecchio, and Parco delle Cascine. Every late November, thousands of runners from over a hundred nations race through a Renaissance setting unique in the world, accompanied by a 10K competitive race and a full weekend of events. It is one of the most beloved classics on the Italian running calendar.

The Florence Marathon, one of Italy's most beautiful races

The Estra Florence Marathon is one of the most anticipated events on the Italian and international running calendar. Every year, on the last Sunday of November, the historic center of Florence (Province of Florence, Tuscany) transforms into an open-air stage for thousands of marathoners arriving from all over the globe. Running these 42.195 km means traversing one of the most extraordinary artistic heritages on the planet, with the Brunelleschi dome in the background and Renaissance masterpieces marking every kilometer.

A course in the heart of the Renaissance

The start is set in Piazza del Duomo, in the shadow of Santa Maria del Fiore and Giotto's Campanile. From here, the route guides runners along the city center streets, through Piazza San Marco, Parco delle Cascine, the Lungarni along the Arno river, the iconic Ponte Vecchio, Piazza Santa Croce, and Piazza della Signoria, before finishing near Piazza San Giovanni. It is a flat and fast course, suitable both for those aiming for a personal best and those running the classic distance for the first time.

An event of international significance

With over ten thousand finishers and athletes from more than a hundred nations, the Florence Marathon confirms its status as one of Italy's most popular marathons. Alongside the main race, the 10K Florence Marathon takes place—a competitive ten-kilometer event that shares the festive atmosphere and much of the same spectacular urban scenery. The weekend is rounded out by the Marathon Village Expo, the meeting point for bib collection, and numerous initiatives dedicated to runners and their families.

More than a race, a celebration for the city

The Florence Marathon is not just a sporting challenge: it is a grand public celebration that involves the entire city. Along the course, musical groups, cheering crowds, and volunteers provide energy, while the organization takes care of every detail, including refreshment stations, medical assistance, and pacers to help runners reach their goals. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a passion for running with the discovery of one of the world's most beautiful cities.
