International organ concerts at the Duomo di San Martino
The Pietrasanta International Organ Festival is a series of organ concerts held every summer in the Duomo di San Martino, the main church of Pietrasanta, in the province of Lucca, in the heart of the Tuscan Versilia. The event was created to showcase and celebrate the monumental pipe organ installed in the Duomo in 2018, an instrument with over 2,700 pipes built by the historic Tuscan organ-building workshop Chichi.
Each edition features a series of concerts performed by internationally renowned organists, who serve as titular organists at some of Europe's most prestigious instruments. The program ranges from Baroque to the Romantic and symphonic repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries, offering the public the chance to hear the tonal and dynamic potential of the Duomo's grand organ live. Over the years, the festival has hosted performers associated with iconic venues such as the Sagrada Famรญlia Basilica in Barcelona, Westminster Abbey in London, the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, and the Freiburg Cathedral.
Concerts take place in the evocative setting of the Duomo di San Martino, overlooking the central square of Pietrasanta. The church, with its marble facade, is a symbol of the historic city center and offers ideal acoustics for organ music. The intimate and solemn atmosphere makes every evening an immersive listening experience.
The festival is distinguished by free admission to all concerts, making it a cultural event accessible to residents, tourists, and sacred music enthusiasts alike. The artistic direction carefully selects soloists and programs each year, aiming to solidify Pietrasanta as a reference point for organ music in Tuscany.
Known as the "Little Athens" for its artistic vocation and numerous sculpture studios, Pietrasanta combines the tradition of marble with a vibrant summer season of cultural events. The Organ Festival fits perfectly into this context, enriching the offerings of the city and the Tuscany Region with events dedicated to great music, just a few kilometers from the beaches of Versilia.
The seventh edition of the Pietrasanta International Organ Festival is scheduled for June 27, 2026, in the Duomo di San Martino, Pietrasanta (LU). Under the artistic direction of Lorenzo Ancillotti, the evening features organist Matteo Venturini, performing a concert on the monumental pipe organ built by the Chichi workshop.
For 2026, the formula remains the same: high-level organ music in one of the most beautiful churches in Versilia, with free admission. We recommend checking the festival's official channels for any updates regarding the time and musical program of the evening.
