Open-air theatre amidst secret residences, sunsets, and dinners with artists in Versilia
The Pietrasanta Green Theatre is one of the most original cultural offerings of the Versilia summer: an en plein air theatre festival that transforms gardens, villas, and unusual spaces in Pietrasanta, in the province of Lucca, into open-air stages. The festival was born from an idea by Renato Raimo, an actor and director who also serves as its artistic director, with the goal of inextricably weaving the relationship between people, places, and artists.
Each evening follows a precise and refined structure, summarized by the festival's slogan: visit the residence, toast at sunset, enjoy the show, dine with the artists. The audience does not simply watch a performance, but lives a complete experience that begins with discovering the venue hosting the evening, continues with a sunset aperitif accompanied by "Art_Live" performances, proceeds to the theatrical or musical show, and concludes with a convivial dinner alongside the performers. It is precisely this fusion of art, conviviality, and landscape that makes the Green Theatre an event unlike any traditional theatre season.
The common thread of the festival is the choice of unexpected locations: the 16th-century garden of the Franciscan friars at the Centro Arti Visive Foundation, the marble spaces of a historic marble company, parks with centuries-old trees, and green theatres. Pietrasanta, with its artistic vocation and proximity to the Apuan Alps and the Versilia sea, offers the ideal setting for a project that aims to enhance the territory through live performance.
Alongside theatre, the festival gives space to visual arts with a dedicated artistic curator and to local cuisine, with a menu that dialogues with the Tuscan gastronomic identity. The festival also has a charitable dimension: the first edition supported the fight against ovarian cancer. A project that combines artistic quality, attention to the landscape, and deep roots in the community of Pietrasanta and Versilia.
The second edition of the Pietrasanta Green Theatre, directed by Renato Raimo, features four evenings in the most evocative locations of Pietrasanta and Versilia, with a program largely dedicated to Giosuè Carducci on the 120th anniversary of his Nobel Prize. The immersive formula remains the same: visit to the residence, sunset aperitif with "Art_Live" performances, show, and convivial dinner with the artists. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Pietrasanta with the Centro Arti Visive Foundation.
"Ennio… the voice of the soul", an intense musical journey dedicated to Ennio Morricone. On stage, Maestro Carlo Bernini as musical director, soprano Roberta Salvati, and the 26-piece orchestra "I Bei Legami" in a symphonic concert with theatrical narration and visual installation.
"The other Giacomo", dedicated to Giacomo Puccini on the centenary of Turandot, with Renato Raimo as author, director, and performer. The show takes place among the marble blocks and processing technologies of the company, with the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte as the gastronomic partner.
"Beyond Grease… the concert", an Italian musical performance with soprano Beatrice Baldaccini, in a park with centuries-old trees and a green theatre.
"Giosuè, but everyone calls me Carducci", a new production with strong evocative impact dedicated to Giosuè Carducci on the 120th anniversary of his Nobel Prize, with Renato Raimo as author, director, and performer. The evening is held in the 16th-century garden of the Franciscan friars and the historic cloister. The show will have a repeat performance on September 5 at Casa Carducci, in Castagneto Carducci.
