The autumn pumpkin festival in the heart of Valpedogna
The Piegaio-Trebbio Pumpkin Festival is one of the most beloved autumn events in the province of Lucca. It takes place in Piegaio, a small hamlet in the municipality of Pescaglia, in the heart of the green Valpedogna valley, and is held on a fixed date: the first Sunday of October. Established in 2005 by a local non-profit association dedicated to highlighting the uniqueness and excellence of the pumpkin, it has grown over the years into a highly anticipated event that draws thousands of people from across Tuscany.
The heart of the festival is the dining area set up for the occasion, where the pumpkin is the absolute star of every course. The rich menu includes:
The kitchen usually opens at lunchtime and service continues throughout the afternoon, accompanying visitors as they stroll through the village.
As per tradition, the 'most beautiful pumpkin' contest is held during the day, open to all participants. Over seventy exhibitors are spread along the fairgrounds and the paths winding through the historic core of the village of Piegaio: pumpkin growers, traditional and contemporary artisans, local products, and cultural activities. Schools from the municipality of Pescaglia often participate with their own projects, making the festival an event that involves the entire community.
In recent years, the Pumpkin Festival has intertwined with the sports events of the Piglione: the festival day coincides with the Piglione Vertical, and race participants receive a meal voucher included in their race pack to spend at the festival stalls. A combination that unites a passion for the mountains and the woods of Valpedogna with the taste of gastronomic tradition.
Nestled in the hilly and wooded landscape of the Media Valle del Serchio, the Piegaio-Trebbio Pumpkin Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany far from the beaten path, featuring seasonal flavors, local crafts, and the genuine atmosphere of a village festival.
The 2026 edition of the Piegaio-Trebbio Pumpkin Festival will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in Piegaio, a hamlet of Pescaglia (LU). The date coincides with the Piglione Vertical: race participants will be able to use a meal voucher included in their race pack at the festival stalls.
As every year, the day will revolve around the dining area with the pumpkin-based menu (appetizers, first courses, desserts), the 'most beautiful pumpkin' contest, and the market with over seventy exhibitors including growers, artisans, and local producers. The detailed program with times and side events is usually announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event on their official social media pages.
