The Piandiscò Carnival in the Arezzo Valdarno

The Piandiscò Carnivalissimo is the annual carnival celebration that fills the streets of Piandiscò, a hub within the municipality of Castelfranco Piandiscò, in the province of Arezzo, in the heart of the upper Tuscan Valdarno. On several Sundays in February, allegorical floats parade along Viale Tina Anselmi (and the adjacent Viale Alcide de Gasperi), amidst costumes, confetti, streamers, and plenty of music, making it one of the most cherished popular events in the region.

Allegorical Float Parades

The heart of the festival lies in the grand allegorical float parades, built with care and passion by local groups. The Sunday parades kick off in the early afternoon, while a special evening event transforms the Carnivalissimo into a nighttime spectacle, with illuminated floats traveling down the avenue after sunset. The final day, held on Shrove Tuesday, brings the parade season to a joyful close.

Costumes, Music, and Traditional Treats

The Carnivalissimo is, above all, a family-friendly festival: children and adults alike join in wearing costumes, while the route is lined with food stalls serving traditional Tuscan carnival sweets: cenci, frittelle, and bomboloni, perfect for snacking while strolling among the floats. Music and entertainment accompany every event, creating an atmosphere of contagious cheer.

The event is organized by the Associazione Carnevalissimo Piandiscoese in collaboration with the local Pro Loco and under the patronage of the Municipality of Castelfranco Piandiscò.
