Celebrations in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Itria Valley
The Pezze di Greco Patronal Feast is the most anticipated summer event in this village of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, nestled in the heart of the Apulian Itria Valley. Every year, in the second half of July, the entire community gathers around its patron saint, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whose liturgical feast falls on July 16th. It is one of those Apulian patronal festivals where the sacred and the secular merge seamlessly, featuring centuries-old religious rites and a civil program that attracts visitors from all the surrounding towns.
The religious heart of the festival is marked by solemn masses presided over by bishops of the Diocese of Conversano-Monopoli, nocturnal prayer vigils, and the evocative gala procession that accompanies the sacred image of the Madonna del Carmine through the streets of the village, from Piazza XX Settembre to Corso Nazionale, flanked by lines of the faithful. The confraternity, the festival committee, and local associations enliven the days with a calendar that includes the enthronement of the Patron Saint, the transfer of the image, and the firing of the morning salute at dawn.
The festive side of the event is entrusted to grand marching bandsโfrom concert bands parading through the streets to the traditional Apulian "bassa musica"โto the artistic illuminations that transform Piazza XX Settembre into a cathedral of light, and to the spectacular fireworks that illuminate the midnight sky. There is no shortage of the panzerotto festival, entertainment shows, and concerts by major names in Italian music, which over the years have brought beloved national pop artists to Pezze di Greco.
Organized by the Pezze di Greco Patronal Feast Committee, the event is much more than just a festival: it is the moment when the small village of Fasano rediscovers its identity, welcomes back emigrants returning for the summer, and opens its doors to tourists vacationing in the Itria Valley. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Apulian hospitality, traditional flavors, and the authentic atmosphere of Southern village festivals.
The 2026 program, presented by the Patronal Feast Committee (chaired by Nicola Colucci), combines as per tradition the religious rites in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel โ whose liturgical feast falls on Thursday, July 16 โ with a rich civil program that culminates in the weekend from July 18 to 20, closing with the concert by Bianca Atzei on Monday, July 20.
The festivities are concentrated in Pezze di Greco, a village of Fasano (BR), with events in Piazza XX Settembre, at the parish church, and along Corso Nazionale.
By car: take the Fasano exit from the SS16 Adriatica highway, then follow signs for Pezze di Greco. By train: Cisternino-Pezze di Greco station (Bari-Lecce line) or Fasano station. Nearest airports: Brindisi (approx. 45 km) and Bari (approx. 60 km).
Religious events and concerts in the square are free of charge.
The evenings of the concerts and processions are very crowded: it is advisable to arrive early to find a spot in Piazza XX Settembre.
