The sweetest fruit of Val d'Agri

In the heart of Val d'Agri, the small municipality of Sant'Arcangelo, with just over six thousand inhabitants in the province of Potenza, celebrates its sweetest fruit: the percoco. It is a juicy and fragrant variety of peach, with firm flesh that adheres to the pit, which has found ideal soil and climate here and has become a Slow Food Presidium, a recognition that protects its typicality and enhances its peasant history.

A festival to rediscover a product

The Sagra del Percoco was born precisely with the aim of promoting the versatility of this fruit and recovering a product that has always been linked to the village's tradition. Among the stands set up by the Pro Loco of Sant'Arcangelo, in Piazza San Michele, you can taste fresh percocos but also their myriad transformations: syruped, in cakes, ice creams, jams, and artisanal liqueurs. A journey that involves local producers, chefs, and food artisans, showing how an entire gastronomic culture can arise from a single fruit.

More than just a summer feast, the Sagra del Percoco is an opportunity for the village to tell its story and strengthen its bond with its territory. The Pro Loco, together with the Municipality of Sant'Arcangelo, makes this day a moment to promote an excellence of the province of Potenza and to welcome visitors, in a convivial atmosphere of tastings, music, and encounters centered around the community's symbolic product.
