A historical medieval re-enactment in the heart of the Canavese region
The Pavone Canavese Medieval Fair is one of the most beloved historical re-enactments in the Canavese region, in the heart of the Province of Turin and Piedmont. For nearly thirty years, between late May and early summer, the small village of Pavone Canavese transforms into an authentic medieval settlement: alleys, squares, and ancient fortified courtyards fill with knights, ladies, commoners, artisans, and costumed musicians, while the imposing Pavone Castle provides a natural backdrop for four days of festivities.
The event is not merely a costume party; it is rooted in a real episode from Pavone's history. It commemorates the oath of allegiance of June 7, 1327, when the Pavonese consul Nicolinus de Bonjhoanne and the community members swore fealty to Palaynus de Advocatis, Bishop and Count of Ivrea. The re-enactment draws inspiration from the statutes and documents of the Pavone community of 1327, offering visitors a glimpse into the daily, civil, and chivalric life of the 14th-century Canavese.
The Medieval Fair program blends entertainment, culture, and gastronomy. Traditional highlights of the event include:
The scenes unfold between the historic center and the ancient fortified courtyards, surrounding the Pavone Castle, one of the best-preserved medieval manors in the Canavese. Strolling among encampments, artisan stalls, and military camps is an experience that engages both adults and children, making the Medieval Fair an unmissable event for history and folk tradition enthusiasts.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Pavone, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pavone Canavese and numerous historical groups. Admission is free, making the Medieval Fair a perfect opportunity for a family trip in the Canavese.
The Pavone Canavese Medieval Fair returns in 2026 with an edition scheduled from Thursday, June 18 to Sunday, June 21. For four days, the Canavese village, in the Province of Turin, relives the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with costumed pageants, combat, taverns, and music.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, guest historical groups, and special events, will be published by the Pro Loco Pavone in the weeks leading up to the event. As per tradition, the historical pageant, armored duels, medieval taverns, juggling shows, and Celtic music are expected, with the heavy duel on Sunday afternoon being one of the most anticipated moments.
Pavone Canavese is located in the Province of Turin, a few kilometers from Ivrea. By car: A5 Turin-Aosta motorway, take the Ivrea exit, then follow signs for Pavone Canavese. By train: Ivrea station on the Turin-Aosta line, then continue by bus or taxi to the village.
Admission to the event is free. Food and drinks at the medieval taverns and some activities may require payment.
