The feast of Saint Mary of the Assumption in the medieval alleys of Bard, with art, music, and tradition
Every year, on the occasion of Ferragosto, the medieval village of Bard celebrates its patron saint, Saint Mary of the Assumption, with an event organized by the Bard Village Association. For two days, the stone alleys, the houses with Gothic windows, and the small squares of the village, dominated by the imposing Fort, are filled with music, art, and visitors.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Cavour, where young artists perform live painting demonstrations and their works remain on display in the village throughout the summer, transforming Bard into a widespread art gallery. The traditional Ferragosto market offers local products and crafts, while musical entertainment is provided by groups like Quinta Rua, with evening concerts in the square.
Bard is one of the most characteristic villages in the Aosta Valley: its Casa Nicole still bears the marks of the cannonballs from the 1800 siege, when Napoleon's army attempted to force the passage defended by the Fort. The patronal feast of the Assumption is an opportunity to immerse oneself in this history, amidst re-enactments, costumes, and the atmosphere of a community that cherishes its traditions in the heart of the Municipality of Bard, in the province of Aosta.
For Ferragosto 2026, the medieval village of Bard is preparing to celebrate its patron saint, Saint Mary of the Assumption, with the usual festive program organized by the Bard Village Association. Based on previous editions, the two days will include the traditional market, live painting demonstrations by young artists in Piazza Cavour, musical entertainment, and the presence of flag-wavers. The complete schedule will be published closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Bard Village Association in the weeks preceding Ferragosto. Based on recent editions, the usual structure includes:
