About Rueglio Patronal Feast

Every year, around May 1st, the small town of Rueglio celebrates its patron saints, Philip and James, with its most heartfelt festival of the year. Featuring a concert by the historic Filarmonica Ruegliese, gastronomic evenings, dancing, a community walk, and a solemn Mass followed by a traditional lunch, the entire Valchiusella village gathers for a few days of community, faith, and joy in one of the most authentic corners of the Piedmontese Canavese region.

The Rueglio Patronal Feast

The Patronal Feast of Saints Philip and James is the most anticipated event of the year for Rueglio, a small town in the Valchiusella valley within the Metropolitan City of Turin, in Piedmont. Dedicated to the two patron apostles of the village, the festival centers around May 1st, a day when religious tradition intertwines with conviviality and the gathering of the small mountain community.

A village tradition

The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Rueglio, in collaboration with the municipality and local associations, including the historic Filarmonica Ruegliese and the Kà 'd-Mezanis Cultural Association. It is one of those patronal feasts that have animated the villages of the Canavese and Valchiusella for generations, where every family participates and the community aspect is just as important as the religious one.

Typical program

The festival spans several days, typically from late April to May 1st:

  • Concert by the Filarmonica Ruegliese, a band founded in 1851 and one of the oldest musical institutions in Valchiusella, often accompanied by a guest philharmonic orchestra at the Municipal Multipurpose Hall;
  • gastronomic evenings featuring fish dinners and grill nights, followed by dancing with live orchestras and musical groups;
  • Amusement park set up in the area adjacent to the municipal hall;
  • May 1st, the highlight day: a morning organized walk, solemn Holy Mass in honor of Saints Philip and James, and a traditional lunch featuring typical valley dishes.

The flavors of Valchiusella

A place of honor is reserved for local gastronomy: the May 1st lunch is the perfect opportunity to rediscover traditional Valchiusella recipes, from wild herb soups to rustic mountain dishes, accompanied by local wines. It is a living testament to a simple, genuine cuisine tied to the rhythms of the Alpine seasons.

Why attend

Visiting the Rueglio Patronal Feast means experiencing an authentic Piedmontese village festival, far from the major tourist circuits, immersed in the woods and pastures of the Valchiusella. It is a perfect occasion for those seeking genuine traditions, brass band music, good food, and the warm welcome of a community that has honored its patron saints for centuries.
