Saint Valentine is the patron saint of Mafalda, a municipality in the province of Campobasso located in upper Molise, near the Trigno valley and the Abruzzo border. The patronal feast is celebrated in September and represents the most important religious and community event of the year for the village.
Between Faith and Peasant Tradition
The celebration is divided between the solemn mass and the procession of the saint's statue through the streets of the historic center, moments of strong popular participation. The feast is also linked to the olive harvest, a central activity of the local economy, with the offering of products for charity that testifies to the peasant roots of the Mafalda community.
The Pro Loco Trespaldum
The organization of the feast is managed by the Pro Loco Trespaldum together with the Municipality of Mafalda. Around the church of Saint Valentine and the historic center, a program unfolds that intertwines devotion, tradition, and social life, in dialogue with the food and wine event "Pe le Ruv d' Rpald" which takes place concurrently.
