An Ancient Bond with the Village

The village was established by the will of Prince Stefano Reggio Gravina, its first lord, who in 1760 had the church dedicated to Saint Stephen the Protomartyr built—still one of the most important buildings in the town today. Inside, it houses the statue of the saint and valuable altars, including that of Our Lady of Sorrows. The names of the founder and the patron saint mirror each other, making this feast a profound part of the Campofiorito identity.

When It Is Celebrated

Saint Stephen the Protomartyr is the primary patron of Campofiorito and is traditionally celebrated on December 26th, the saint's liturgical day. Alongside him, the town venerates Saint Joseph as a co-patron, honored on March 19th with characteristic altars and traditional feasts. During the summer, the patronal festivities are part of the Estate Campofioritana calendar, a series of events promoted by the Municipality that brings the town to life throughout August, with the religious feast representing its final and most solemn moment.
