The celebrations for the patron saint of San Martino in Pensilis
In San Martino in Pensilis, in lower Molise, the figure of Saint Leo is not only linked to the famous Carrese on April 30th: the patronal celebrations continue with religious ceremonies and grand evening events in the square. The patronal feast, held in the first days of May, includes a solemn mass, a procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets, and entertainment moments that involve the entire community.
For years, the most anticipated part of the civil celebration has been the free evening concert in the square, capable of attracting a very large audience from all over lower Molise. The Municipality of San Martino in Pensilis (province of Campobasso) focuses on nationally renowned artists, transforming the patron saint's feast into a musical event that is talked about well beyond regional borders.
The Feast of Saint Leo is the occasion when the village brings together its two souls: that of tradition and faith, with the procession and veneration of the patron saint, and that of popular festivity, with music, lights, and a crowded square. An event that ideally closes the cycle of celebrations opened by the Carrese.
The highlight of the 2026 patronal feast was the concert by Franco Ricciardi on May 2nd in the square of San Martino in Pensilis. The Neapolitan artist—an interpreter also known for award-winning film soundtracks—chose the lower Molise village to inaugurate his 2026 Tour, effectively the first official date of the tour. The stage featured a mix of his most famous repertoire pieces and new tracks from his recently launched musical project. The event, with free admission, drew a crowd that filled the square, marking a great success in terms of audience and organization.
