The grand August festival in Scafa honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Roch, and Saint Emidius
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Roch is the main event on the calendar of Scafa, a town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, nestled in the Pescara Valley at the foot of the Majella mountains. Each year, the community gathers around its patron saints during the last week of August, dedicating Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to the festivities. Alongside Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Roch, the local devotion also celebrates Saint Emidius, the protector invoked against earthquakes.
The religious heart of the festival is the Parish Church of S. Maria del Carmelo, the starting point for the solemn processions that wind through the town center with the statues of the saints carried on shoulders. Liturgical celebrations, Holy Masses, and moments of prayer mark the days, alternating with the secular program organized with passion by the Patronal Feast Committee, which brings together the efforts of volunteers and citizens every year to renew a tradition deeply rooted in the town's identity.
The popular dimension of the festival comes alive in the town squares: free concerts, musical performances, artistic illuminations, food stalls serving typical Abruzzese flavors, and the traditional fireworks that conclude the celebrations. Recent editions have seen the Scafa stage host nationally renowned artists alongside local bands and tribute acts, turning the last weekend of August into a grand community celebration open to families and visitors alike.
For Scafa, the Patronal Feast is much more than a religious recurrence: it is the occasion when the town rediscovers its identity, welcomes back those who have returned for the summer, and opens its doors to visitors from neighboring towns. Between the sacred and the profane, prayer and entertainment, the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Roch, and Saint Emidius remain the most anticipated and well-attended moment of the year for the Scafa community.
The 2026 edition of the Scafa Patronal Feast will be held, according to custom, during the last week of August, with religious celebrations in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Roch, and Saint Emidius, accompanied by a secular program of concerts, shows, and fireworks. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: this page will be updated as soon as the Patronal Feast Committee publishes the full calendar of festivities.
The celebrations take place in Scafa (PE), centered around the Parish Church of S. Maria del Carmelo on Via 1 Maggio. Evening shows and concerts are held in the squares and designated areas of the town center.
By car: Scafa is accessible via the A25 motorway (Alanno-Scafa exit) and the SS5 Tiburtina Valeria road. By train: the Scafa-San Valentino station is on the Rome-Pescara line. From Pescara, it can be reached in about 30 minutes by car traveling up the Pescara Valley.
Admission to events and concerts is free. For information: Municipality of Scafa, tel. +39 085 8541226.
