About Scafa Patronal Feast

Every year, on the last weekend of August, Scafa celebrates its Patronal Feast in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Roch, and Saint Emidius. Three days of faith and festivities, spanning Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, blend religious services and street processions with a rich secular program featuring free concerts, shows, and fireworks. It is the most cherished event of the Scafa summer, drawing thousands of visitors from across the Pescara province to this town in the Pescara Valley.

The Patronal Feast of Scafa

The Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Roch is the main event on the calendar of Scafa, a town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, nestled in the Pescara Valley at the foot of the Majella mountains. Each year, the community gathers around its patron saints during the last week of August, dedicating Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to the festivities. Alongside Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Roch, the local devotion also celebrates Saint Emidius, the protector invoked against earthquakes.

Faith, Tradition, and Community

The religious heart of the festival is the Parish Church of S. Maria del Carmelo, the starting point for the solemn processions that wind through the town center with the statues of the saints carried on shoulders. Liturgical celebrations, Holy Masses, and moments of prayer mark the days, alternating with the secular program organized with passion by the Patronal Feast Committee, which brings together the efforts of volunteers and citizens every year to renew a tradition deeply rooted in the town's identity.

Music, Shows, and Fireworks

The popular dimension of the festival comes alive in the town squares: free concerts, musical performances, artistic illuminations, food stalls serving typical Abruzzese flavors, and the traditional fireworks that conclude the celebrations. Recent editions have seen the Scafa stage host nationally renowned artists alongside local bands and tribute acts, turning the last weekend of August into a grand community celebration open to families and visitors alike.

A Pescara Valley Landmark

For Scafa, the Patronal Feast is much more than a religious recurrence: it is the occasion when the town rediscovers its identity, welcomes back those who have returned for the summer, and opens its doors to visitors from neighboring towns. Between the sacred and the profane, prayer and entertainment, the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Roch, and Saint Emidius remain the most anticipated and well-attended moment of the year for the Scafa community.
