A loop hike through the hills of the Asti Monferrato, from Primeglio to Passerano Marmorito
The Path of Saints and Brigands is a hiking trail that winds through the hills of Passerano Marmorito, a small town in the Province of Asti nestled in the Asti Monferrato region of Piedmont. The 10-kilometre loop trail starts and ends in the hamlet of Primeglio, where the local Pro Loco welcomes hikers for a day that blends nature, spirituality, and folk tradition.
The initiative was created in collaboration with the Cammini del Monferrato Don Bosco, a network of routes that retraces the historic 'great walks' taken by Don Bosco with his young followers from Valdocco to the Becchi of Castelnuovo. These paths cross the territories of Passerano Marmorito and neighbouring towns, climbing halfway up the hills through vineyards and woods to the parish church of Saints Peter and Paul. It is to this legacy of faith and pilgrimage that the first part of the name, dedicated to the 'Saints', refers.
The other soul of the day is that of the brigands, figures who populate the legends and tales of the Monferrato hills. This theme accompanies the hike right up to the final convivial moment: the Brigands' Lunch, served at the Pro Loco headquarters in Primeglio at the end of the walk, featuring typical Piedmontese cuisine.
Passerano Marmorito is home to the Castello dei Radicati, considered one of the best-preserved structures in the Monferrato, and a landscape of cultivated hills that opens up over the Asti area. The walk thus becomes an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of rural Piedmont, far from mass tourism circuits.
Promoted by the Pro Loco of Primeglio with the patronage of the Municipality of Passerano Marmorito, the event is one of the highlights of community life in this Monferrato village, combining hiking, local history, and fine dining.
