The parmigiana feast in Panza, Forio d'Ischia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Parmigiana Festival is one of the most cherished local celebrations during the summer in Forio d'Ischia, in the Province of Naples, Campania. It is traditionally held in late August in the charming Piazza San Leonardo, the heart of the hillside village of Panza, transforming the hamlet into a large open-air gathering dedicated to taste and conviviality. For one night, the square fills with long tables, enticing aromas, and music, creating a festive atmosphere that brings together both residents and visitors vacationing on the island.
The absolute star is the eggplant parmigiana, an iconic dish of Campanian and Neapolitan cuisine: layers of fried eggplant, tomato sauce, basil, fiordilatte cheese, and grated cheese, baked until soft and stringy. At the festival, it is prepared according to traditional recipes, often accompanied by other local specialties and wines from the island of Ischia. The event is a perfect opportunity to rediscover the genuine flavors of island gastronomy and promote local products.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Panza Ischia, a cultural and tourist association very active in the village, with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Forio. The festival is part of the Estate a Forio (Summer in Forio) calendar, a rich program of events that accompanies the months of July and August with festivals, concerts, and popular traditions. Every year, the Pro Loco manages the setup of the stalls, hospitality, and entertainment, helping to keep the village's identity alive.
Panza is one of the most characteristic villages of Forio, nestled among vineyards, trails, and panoramas overlooking the Bay of Sorgeto and the southern coast of the island of Ischia. Far from the crowded beaches, it preserves an authentic village atmosphere, made of intimate squares, historic churches, and a strong farming and winemaking tradition. The Parmigiana Festival is, in this sense, much more than a food festival: it is a moment of community that tells the story of the deep bond between the people of Panza and their land.
Thanks to free admission and its open-air setting, the Parmigiana Festival is among the most beloved late-summer events in Forio: an invitation to stop in Panza to savor, beyond the parmigiana, the genuine hospitality of the island of Ischia.
For 2026, the Parmigiana Festival is once again included in the summer event calendar of the Municipality of Forio, with the event scheduled for late August in Piazza San Leonardo, in the village of Panza. The event, managed by the Pro Loco Panza, will bring back to the square the tastings of eggplant parmigiana, traditional island dishes, and live music that make it one of the most anticipated festivals of the summer in Ischia.
At the moment, the exact date and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. Information will be updated as soon as it is released by the organizers.
Panza is a village in Forio d'Ischia, in the Province of Naples. You can reach the island by ferry or hydrofoil from the ports of Naples (Molo Beverello, Calata Porta di Massa) and Pozzuoli, disembarking at Ischia Porto, Casamicciola, or Forio. From there, Panza is connected by the island's bus lines; by car or scooter, follow the road to Panza-Sant'Angelo until you reach Piazza San Leonardo.
Admission to the festival is free. Tastings of parmigiana and typical dishes can be purchased at the food stalls at popular prices.
We recommend arriving early to find a seat in the square and checking the updated date for the 2026 edition on the official channels of the Pro Loco Panza and the Municipality of Forio.
