The panzerotto festival in the ancient village of Cocolicchio, Fasano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, in the heart of summer, the small Contrada Cocolicchio — an ancient rural village nestled among trulli in the territory of Fasano, in the Province of Brindisi — comes alive for the Panzerottata among the Trulli. It is one of those authentic village festivals, born from the community and grown year after year, where locals gather around a simple and beloved dish: the Apulian panzerotto.
The true king of the evening is the fried panzerotto, prepared according to the most genuine recipe: leavened dough filled with tomato and melted mozzarella, fried to order just like in grandmothers' kitchens. To complete the meal, there are wines from the Fasano hills, cold beer, and a selection of drinks for every taste. Everything is served in the village's characteristic little square, surrounded by dry-stone walls and stone cones.
The Panzerottata is not just about gastronomy: it is above all a folk festival. The evening is marked by the rhythms of Apulian tradition, with folk groups enlivening the village to the sound of tambourines, accordions, and powerful voices. Pizzica and tarantella music draw both young and old into circle dances, while folk tales and songs reveal the most authentic soul of this land.
The event is also an opportunity to rediscover Cocolicchio, one of the most evocative hamlets in the Fasano countryside, with its trulli, its farming history, and its landscapes dotted with centuries-old olive trees. Organized by the Cocolicchio Cultural Association, the festival aims to keep ancient traditions alive in a fast-paced world, highlighting the rural identity of the countryside between Fasano and the Itria Valley.
At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Panzerottata among the Trulli have not yet been announced by the organizers. The festival, hosted in the charming Contrada Cocolicchio in Fasano (BR), is usually held in summer, in the month of June, in the evening.
Based on past editions, the heart of the evening remains the fried panzerotto filled with tomato and mozzarella, accompanied by wines from the Fasano hills, beer, and a rich program of Apulian folk music and dances. The detailed program and the official date will be published by the Cocolicchio Cultural Association closer to the event.
