The historic food and wine festival in Panza, in the heart of the island of Ischia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Panza Wine and Sausage Festival is one of the most deeply rooted popular events on the island of Ischia. It takes place in Panza, the hillside village of the municipality of Forio, in the province of Naples and in the heart of the insular Campania region. Born in the seventies, the festival reached its 50th edition in 2024 and is now considered one of the most anticipated summer events in the Forio area.
The heart of the festival is the food and wine tradition of Panza. The absolute star is the wine from the Ischian hills, the fruit of heroic viticulture that has shaped the island's terraces for centuries. Alongside a glass of wine, visitors can enjoy the famous grilled sausages (the "salsicciata" that gives the festival its name), together with local peasant dishes served at the numerous food stalls set up for the occasion.
The evening is not just about taste: Piazza San Leonardo transforms into an open-air stage with live music, folkloric performances, cabaret, and entertainment for all ages. Past editions have featured local orchestras and artists, creating a festive atmosphere that brings different generations together until late at night.
The festival is promoted by the Pro Loco Panza Ischia with the support of local committees and the parish community of San Leonardo. It is a deeply participatory event, built by the work of volunteers, which attracts thousands of people every year, including islanders and holidaymakers.
Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover Panza and the southwestern side of Ischia, between the Bay of Sorgeto, the natural thermal springs, and the beaches of Citara. An evening that tells the story of the authentic soul of the Green Island, far from the most crowded tourist circuits and close to the real life of its people.
The 2026 edition of the Panza Wine and Sausage Festival is included in the summer events calendar of the Municipality of Forio, traditionally scheduled for late August. At the moment, the precise date and the line-up of performances are not yet known.
However, the identity elements of the festival are confirmed: wine from the Ischian hills, grilled sausages, food stalls with traditional dishes, and an evening of music and folklore in Piazza San Leonardo, in Panza. For the updated program, please refer to the Pro Loco Panza Ischia.
Ischia can be reached by ferry or hydrofoil from the ports of Naples (Molo Beverello, Calata Porta di Massa) and Pozzuoli. From Ischia Porto, Panza can be reached by bus (CS/CD lines and lines to Forio) or by car in about 25-30 minutes towards Forio.
Access to the square is free; wine tastings, sausages, and traditional dishes can be purchased at the food stalls. It is recommended to arrive early to find a spot.
The festival takes place in the evening, outdoors: wear comfortable shoes for the streets of Panza's center. For updated dates and programs, contact the Pro Loco Panza Ischia ([email protected], tel. +39 081 908436).
