Masks, parades, and tradition in the heart of the Baroque style at the southern tip of Sicily
The Pachino Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the province of Syracuse, located at the southernmost tip of Sicily. Organized by the Pro Loco of Pachino, the event transforms the town's historic center into an open-air stage filled with masks, music, color, and joy. The beating heart of the festival is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, the starting point for parades and entertainment that involve the entire community.
In Pachino, the Carnival preserves the authentic spirit of Sicilian village festivals. Alongside the masks and costumed groups, the Pro Loco hosts events dedicated to taste and tradition, featuring stalls with local products and regional specialties. Pachino is world-renowned for its PGI tomato and local wines, making the festival the perfect opportunity to rediscover local flavors in a convivial atmosphere.
During the festival days, the streets of the center are filled with masks, dancing, and street performances. Children and families are the true stars, surrounded by confetti, streamers, and entertainment accompanying the parades. The participation of local groups and associations creates a grassroots, inclusive Carnival where community spirit is just as important as the spectacle itself.
The Pachino Carnival is traditionally held in the days leading up to Shrove Tuesday in February. For the 2026 edition, the Pro Loco of Pachino has announced a calendar of events running from February 12 to 17, 2026, under the theme "Carnival is served!", highlighting the link between celebration, food, and tradition.
Situated at the southeastern tip of Sicily in the province of Syracuse, Pachino is a lively town overlooking the sea, just a stone's throw from the fishing villages of Marzamemi and Portopalo di Capo Passero and the Vendicari nature reserve. The Carnival is one of the most important social events of the year, enlivening the town during the winter months and showcasing the cultural identity of this corner of Sicily.
The Pachino Carnival 2026 was held from Thursday, February 12, to Tuesday, February 17, 2026, coinciding with Shrove Tuesday. The Pro Loco of Pachino promoted the event in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, in the heart of the historic center, celebrating the combination of festivities and local products. Masks, entertainment, and convivial moments marked the festival days, confirming the Carnival as one of the most beloved winter events in Pachino.
