The Ostia Cuttlefish Festival is one of the most anticipated culinary events of the autumn on the Roman coast. Every year, in early October, the pedestrian area of Piazza Anco Marzio in the historic center of Ostia comes alive with stalls, the scent of the sea, and live performances. The district of Ostia is part of the Municipality of Rome (Municipio X), within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region, and this festival highlights its deep-rooted maritime soul.

A mollusk at the heart of the table

The absolute star is the cuttlefish, prepared by seaside restaurants in every imaginable way: from the traditional cuttlefish and pea stew to squid-ink tagliatelle, from fried seafood to arrosticini, and even creative offerings like cuttlefish soppressata. There is also a dedicated gluten-free service, with a full menu designed for those with specific dietary needs. Alongside the food area, you will find an aperitif and street food zone and local producer stands.

More than just gastronomy

The event goes beyond the plate: the central stage in the square hosts show cooking with local chefs and culinary students, debates on sustainable fishing and nutrition, live music, cabaret, and dance nights.
