The Easter concert of the Tirolo band

The Osterkonzert der Musikkapelle Dorf Tirol is the spring appointment with which the local brass band of Tirolo celebrates the Easter season. It is held in the Municipality of Tirolo (Tirol in German), a charming village in the Burgraviato perched above Merano, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the bilingual heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is one of the most cherished musical evenings on the local calendar, filling the village hall with families, enthusiasts, and tourists staying among the apple orchards and castles of the Merano area.

A tradition of folk culture

The Musikkapelle Dorf Tirol embodies a centuries-old folk culture, that of the South Tyrolean brass bands (the famous Musikkapellen) that enliven village life with concerts, processions, and traditional festivals. For the Easter concert, the musicians wear the characteristic traditional costume (Tracht), a strong identity symbol of this German-speaking Alpine land. The concert is not just a musical event, but a community moment where the bond between the band and its village is renewed.

The musical program

The repertoire is deliberately varied and designed for a wide audience. The evening covers several genres:

• Traditional brass band music: marches, polkas, and waltzes, the classic soundtrack of Alpine bands;
• Original symphonic music for bands, with more expansive pieces;
• Modern entertainment music, to close on a light note and engage younger audiences.

The detailed program of individual pieces is defined by the band and its conductor in the weeks prior; however, the set offers a balanced journey between tradition and contemporary sounds.

Where and when

The concert takes place at the Vereinshaus (the village association hall), at Hauptstraße 31 in Tirolo, or potentially on the festival square in case of good weather. Admission is free and no reservation is required. The event is organized by the Musikkapelle Dorf Tirol in collaboration with the Tirolo Tourist Office.

Attending the Osterkonzert is also an opportunity to discover the village of Tirolo, famous for Castel Tirolo (which gave its name to the entire historical region of Tyrol) and for the scenic trails overlooking the Merano basin.
