Early music in the historic residences of the Moncalieri hills
Orfeo in Giardino is an early music festival that brings the hills of Moncalieri, in the Province of Turin, Piedmont, to life every summer. The festival was born with a clear vision: to open up and showcase some of the historic residences scattered across the Moncalieri hills—villas and courtyards nestled in rural settings that safeguard the memory of the past and its traditions. In these often secret and inaccessible places, Renaissance and Baroque music becomes the perfect medium to enter a unique dimension where history, beauty, nature, and sound merge into a single immersive experience.
The festival's format combines the pleasure of being outdoors, the discovery of history-rich locations, and the timeless beauty of music that speaks to the soul. Each event takes place in the garden or courtyard of a different residence, transformed for the evening into a natural stage. The audience, welcomed into intimate spaces, can experience the concert in close contact with the performers and the surrounding landscape.
The heart of the program is early music: Renaissance and Baroque compositions performed with philological attention and interpretative sensitivity. Featured composers include the great names of the European Baroque season, from Henry Purcell to Georg Friedrich Händel, and from Georg Philipp Telemann to other masters who explored the relationship between voice and instrument and the language of the emotions. The artistic direction is curated by the Accademia degli Umoristi, which brings together musicians specialized in historical performance practice.
Past editions have been held in various residences across the hills, including Villa Bersezio (once the home of the writer, journalist, and deputy Vittorio Bersezio), Villa Demorra, and the grounds of Castelvecchio, as well as vineyards and historic houses used in the inaugural editions. The festival is part of the Moncalieri d'estate program, the cultural event season organized by the Municipality of Moncalieri.
The second edition of Orfeo in Giardino, the Early Music Festival in the historic residences of Moncalieri, features three concerts on June 12, 19, and 27, 2026. The venues chosen for this year are Villa Bersezio, Villa Demorra, and Castelvecchio, historic residences and spaces on the Moncalieri hills opened to the public for the occasion.
This edition is part of the Moncalieri d'estate 2026 program, featuring two months of music, cinema, performances, and events promoted by the Municipality of Moncalieri. Entry is by free-will donation with mandatory reservations for each concert.

A program exploring the relationship between vocal and instrumental music in Baroque aesthetics, featuring works by Purcell, Händel, Telemann, Detry, and Philidor, focusing on the theme of "affections." Venue: Villa Bersezio, behind Castelvecchio, formerly the home of writer and deputy Vittorio Bersezio.
Second event of the festival at Villa Demorra. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers closer to the event date.
Closing concert at Castelvecchio, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers closer to the event date.

Moncalieri is located just a few kilometers from Turin and is easily accessible by car via the ring road or by public transport (train and bus from the city). The historic residences are located on the Moncalieri hills: we recommend checking the exact location of each concert at the time of booking.
Admission is by free-will donation. Reservations are mandatory due to the limited capacity of the residences: call/WhatsApp +39 329 4938344 or email [email protected].
Concerts are held outdoors, usually in the late afternoon. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and checking for any program or venue changes in case of bad weather.
