About Opificia

Opificia is the Palermo market dedicated to Sicilian craftsmanship, design, and vintage. Launched in 2019 by Luca Tumminia and organized by the Associazione Artigianando, it brings together dozens of artisans showcasing handmade bags, artistic ceramics, jewelry, clothing, and home decor. Each edition, hosted in historic mansions and cultural spaces across the city, allows the public to discover the stories and techniques behind every piece, celebrating the island's artistic trades and creativity.

Opificia, a showcase of Sicilian craftsmanship in Palermo

Opificia is the market in Palermo that highlights the excellence of Sicilian craftsmanship, design, and vintage. Established in 2019 by Luca Tumminia, organizer and president of the Associazione Artigianando, the event has quickly become a must-attend for lovers of handmade goods and unique pieces. Several times a year, between spring and autumn, Opificia transforms the historic mansions and cultural venues of the Sicilian capital into a vast, pop-up workshop where dozens of artisans meet the public directly.

What to find at the market

Visitors can admire and purchase entirely handmade creations: carefully stitched bags, clothing, jewelry and bijoux, artistic ceramics, home decor items, and illustrations. Alongside contemporary crafts, there is a section dedicated to vintage, featuring garments and objects that capture the style and taste of bygone eras. The experiential aspect is central: every visitor can learn about the stories and techniques behind each piece by speaking directly with the creators.

  • Hand-stitched bags and accessories
  • Artistic ceramics and home decor
  • Jewelry, bijoux, and clothing by Sicilian artisans
  • Vintage items and illustrations

From Villa Pottino to the Cantieri della Zisa and Centro Biotos

Over the years, Opificia has chosen various evocative settings in the city of Palermo: the Art Nouveau halls of Villa Pottino on Via Emanuele Notarbartolo, the spaces of the Nuove Officine della Zisa (NOZ) at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, and the Centro Culturale Biotos on Via XII Gennaio, which hosted the autumn 2025 edition. This rotation through the city's iconic landmarks is part of the event's identity and helps to showcase a different piece of the city's heritage each time.

An event for Palermo and Sicily

More than just a fair, Opificia is an opportunity to support the work of Sicilian artisans and rediscover the value of traditional crafts on the island. With free admission and a convivial atmosphere—often enhanced by a food area and live music—it is an event suitable for families, curious visitors, and design enthusiasts alike. As part of the Sicilian capital's rich calendar of events, this market offers a small journey into the region's manufacturing excellence in the heart of Palermo.
