Opera and musical theatre in the Hall of Honour of the Stupinigi Hunting Residence
There is something truly magical about listening to an aria by Rossini or Puccini beneath the stuccoes and frescoes of the Hall of Honour at the Stupinigi Hunting Residence, a Baroque masterpiece by Filippo Juvarra and a former royal hunting lodge of the House of Savoy. This is the essence of Opera and Musical at Court, a series that brings the greatest operatic repertoire and beloved musicals into the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Savoy residence in the town of Nichelino (Province of Turin, Piedmont).
Each event is designed as an anthology concert: the most famous passages from an opera or musical are performed by soloists (sopranos, tenors, baritones, basses) accompanied by piano, with commentary by Roberto Tagliani. The intimate scale of the Hall of Honour brings the audience closer to the performers, recreating the elegant, salon-style atmosphere in which music was enjoyed in 18th-century courts. Each performance is preceded by a welcome aperitif, which is an integral part of the evening experience.
The series is the result of a collaboration between the Teatro Superga of Nichelino, a true jewel of the local cultural scene, the STM โ School of Musical Theatre, and the Ordine Mauriziano Foundation, which preserves and promotes the residence. Over the years, the programme has featured iconic titles of Italian melodramaโfrom La Bohรจme to Tosca, La Traviata to Rigoletto and Il Trovatoreโalternated with evenings dedicated to musical theatre, with tributes to Shakespeare, Tim Burton, and the great classics of the stage.
Attending a performance at Stupinigi also means experiencing an extraordinary place: the residence, nestled in its park on the outskirts of Turin, is an unmissable stop for anyone visiting Piedmont. The series thus combines live music, historical heritage, and hospitality into an experience that goes far beyond a simple concert.
