Two days of multidisciplinary art at Villa Alberti in Signa
Oltrecontemporanea is a multidisciplinary arts festival that transforms the park and grounds of Villa Alberti, just a stone's throw from the historic centre of Signa, into a large open-air creative hub. Launched in 2025, the event brings together diverse disciplines—contemporary art, music, theatre, dance, poetry, installations, and performances—with the aim of connecting the public with contemporary artistic languages and providing visibility to emerging talents.
The event offers a dense and varied schedule that unfolds throughout the day. The villa's greenery hosts installations and contemporary art works, alongside live concerts, theatre and dance performances, poetry readings, and public discussions. In its second edition, the number of participating artists doubled to over sixty, and the festival expanded to include new forms of expression such as poetry and performance art.
Oltrecontemporanea is more than just entertainment: since its first edition, the festival has paired its artistic programme with a path of social awareness. Students from the Alessandro Paoli Comprehensive Institute read reflections from the volume Costruiamo insieme un mondo migliore (Building a better world together) to the public, the result of a project on gender equality. It is a way to weave together creativity, education, and active citizenship.
The initiative is promoted by the Il Caso collective together with the Pollicino and Conversatorio associations, with the patronage and support of the Signa Municipal Administration, the Pro Loco, and the local comprehensive institute. This network of local entities makes Oltrecontemporanea an event deeply rooted in the community.
The Municipality of Signa is located in the Florentine Plain along the Arno River, within the Metropolitan City of Florence, in Tuscany. Villa Alberti, with its park just steps from the historic centre, offers an ideal setting for an open-air event that combines art, nature, and social interaction, confirming the cultural vocation of a region rich in history and tradition.
The second edition of Oltrecontemporanea was held at Villa Alberti, in Signa, on June 7 and 8, 2026, with a programme significantly expanded compared to its debut. The number of artists involved effectively doubled, exceeding sixty participants, and the event was enriched with new forms of expression such as poetry and performance art.
The festival ran throughout the day: Saturday from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with the park open to the public on both days. The event showcased contemporary art, live concerts, theatre, dance, installations, a creative market, and food trucks.
