An Abruzzese take on the "Corrida"

Olè El Toreador has become a staple of the summer in Martinsicuro, a seaside town in the province of Teramo, located at the northernmost tip of the Abruzzo coast, where the Tronto River marks the border with the Marche region. Inspired by the iconic Italian TV show La Corrida, the event brings a parade of "amateurs in the spotlight" to the stage at Rotonda Las Palmas along the Lungomare Europa: impromptu singers, comedians, dancers, and eccentric characters who test their skills in front of a festive and boisterous audience.

How the competition works

The format is the same one that made the television show famous: it is an open competition where the audience acts as the jury. Spectators are equipped with pots, lids, whistles, horns, and noisemakers to accompany the performances with either approval or, conversely, thunderous "rejections." It is this noisy, playful participation that creates the unique atmosphere of the evening, where the line between performer and spectator blurs until it disappears.

Two evenings and prizes

The event spans two evenings, featuring an elimination round and a final. In recent editions, prizes have included shopping vouchers for the top finishers, as well as special awards like the "Sympathy Prize" and recognition for the most "toreador-like" spirit. Top-performing contestants have also gained access to auditions for singing competitions across the Adriatic region, confirming the event's role as a true springboard for local talent.

A hallmark of the summer

Organized by the Pro Loco Martinsicuro APS in collaboration with the municipal administration, Olè El Toreador has been a fixture on the summer calendar for many years and has become a symbol of popular entertainment on the Truentino coast. The Rotonda Las Palmas, the beating heart of Martinsicuro's summer life, transforms for the occasion into a large open-air theater overlooking the Adriatic Sea, attracting hundreds of residents and vacationers alike.
