The festival of literature, comics, and civic engagement at the Castle of Carovigno
In January 2026, the Municipality of Carovigno, in the Province of Brindisi, hosts the first edition of Nuvole di Carta, a literature festival entirely dedicated to comics, art, and civic engagement. The event brings to the heart of the Salento area a cultural project that intertwines storytelling, illustration, and social reflection, with a particular focus on the world of childhood and the educational power of stories.
The festival is held in the evocative Castello Dentice di Frasso, one of the iconic monuments of Carovigno that overlooks the historic center of the Apulian town. Its halls host both the exhibition and the meetings, offering a fascinating architectural setting that enhances the dialogue between historical heritage and contemporary languages such as comics and visual art.
The core of the first edition is the collective exhibition «Ilvarum Yaga - One Hundred Illustrators against the Red Witch», open from January 10th to 31st, 2026. The project brings together over one hundred Italian artists and illustrators who, by combining drawing and poetry, create a powerful visual denunciation against environmental pollution and its consequences on childhood. The exhibited works turn comics and contemporary art into a tool for civic awareness and advocacy.
From January 28th to 30th, 2026, the festival offers a packed program of meetings with authors and illustrators, joined by psychologists and psychotherapists. The three days are dedicated to dialogue and discussion on topics of great social utility, exploring the role of stories, art, and imagination in educational and growth processes. A multidisciplinary approach that connects artistic languages with psychological and educational reflection.
Nuvole di Carta was born as a free admission event, designed to encourage the widest possible participation of citizens, students, and visitors. The free formula confirms the civic and inclusive vocation of the festival, which aims to bring audiences of all ages closer to the themes of the environment, education, and the culture of comics.
The first edition is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Carovigno with the Social Services Department, together with the Associazione Kalón - Il bello, il bene, il vero APS, Stabilimenti ODV, and Apleti ETS. A network of associations in the Apulian territory that share the goal of making literature and art a vehicle for civic engagement and community growth.
The festival debuted in January 2026 within the spaces of the Castello Dentice di Frasso in Carovigno.
