International poetry and arts festival between Ostuni and the Itria Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Outsider Festival is an international event dedicated primarily to poetry, which every September brings life to Ostuni, the famous White City in the province of Brindisi, alongside the nearby town of Cisternino in the heart of the Itria Valley in Apulia. Established in 2023, the festival gathers poets, musicians, actors, photographers, and visual artists from across Europe and various Latin American countries, with a special focus on contemporary poetry and its intersections with music, theater, and dance.
The entire event comes to life in Ostuni: the festival is promoted by the Casa della Poesia Norah Zapata-Prill association, based right here in the White City. The inaugural evening is traditionally held at the Casa della Musica in Ostuni (Via Gabriele Rossetti), featuring institutional greetings, opening poetry readings, and concerts. In the following days, the festival spreads through the whitewashed alleys of the historic center and the villages of the Itria Valley in a nomadic, widespread format.
Each edition brings international voices to Ostuni: Italian and foreign poets take turns in often bilingual readings, accompanied by soprano, piano, and accordion. The program includes poetic walks in historic centers, cycling routes along the Apulian Aqueduct, meetings with independent publishers, theater and dance performances, and sensory experiences. The artistic direction is led by Adele Nacci and Dario Lacitignola.
In addition to the Casa della Poesia Norah Zapata-Prill, the festival collaborates with numerous local entities such as Teatro Folletti e Folli, Teatro In Pineta, Studio Colizzi, the Meteo Valle d'Itria Association, FIAB CicloAmici, and the Amici della Musica, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Ostuni and Cisternino.
For those who love the poetic word and are looking for an intimate, unconventional cultural experience, the Outsider Festival is an unmissable event at the end of the Ostuni summer.
The Outsider Festival is expected to return to Ostuni in 2026, upholding the tradition of the international poetry event promoted by the Casa della Poesia Norah Zapata-Prill in the White City and the Itria Valley (Province of Brindisi).
As of now, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition in Ostuni have not yet been announced. As in previous editions, the event is expected to take place in September, with the inaugural evening at the Casa della Musica in Ostuni and a series of widespread poetry readings, concerts, and poetic walks. This page will be updated with the calendar and guest names as soon as the organizers make them public.
Ostuni is located in the province of Brindisi, a short distance from the Adriatic coast and the Itria Valley. By car, it can be reached via the SS16 Adriatica; the Ostuni train station is on the Adriatic line (about 3 km from the center, connected by shuttles). The nearest airports are Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese.
The inaugural evening is usually held at the Casa della Musica in Ostuni, at Via Gabriele Rossetti 25. Other events take place between the historic center of the White City and various locations in the Itria Valley; comfortable shoes are recommended for the poetic walks.
Most events offer free admission. For the detailed program and any necessary reservations, it is recommended to contact the organizers ([email protected], tel. +39 347 598 6360).
