Every year, at the end of June, the historic center of Penne, in the heart of the Pescara province in Abruzzo, transforms into an open-air theater for hundreds of athletes and enthusiasts. Organized by the ASD Amatori Podisti Pennesi, the event is a staple of the regional running calendar and the Corrilabruzzo circuit.

A course through the village of the Vestini

The competitive race takes place on a city circuit of approximately 2.9 km, repeated three times for a total of 9 km. The route winds through the alleys, squares, and slopes of Penne's medieval center, the ancient capital of the Vestini and one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy." Known as the "City of Brick" for its characteristic red brick architecture, Penne offers a unique backdrop: running at night through its illuminated streets creates an atmosphere that transcends simple sports competition.

Races for everyone: from youth to amateurs

The Notturna Pennese is not just for expert athletes. The program includes several categories:

• Youth races: the "Città di Penne" Trophy, valid for the FIDAL Regional Championship, with distances tailored for different age groups;
• 9 km competitive race, reserved for registered athletes and professionals;
• 3 km non-competitive fun run, open to everyone, perfect for families and enthusiasts who want to enjoy the event without the pressure of competition.

Sport, tradition, and the flavors of Abruzzo

One of the most distinctive aspects of the event is its deep connection to the local area and its culinary excellence. Category winners are awarded the prized Pecorino di Farindola, a cheese typical of the Vestina area. The final refreshment station offers water, tea, and Rimpizzo, a traditional Abruzzese pastry rooted in local agricultural heritage.
