The amateur theatre festival of Quattordio in memory of Gianfranco Trusiano
Every summer, the small town of Quattordio, located in the Monferrato area of the Alessandria province (Piedmont), transforms into an open-air stage. Notti a Teatro is a festival showcasing the best of Piedmontese amateur theatre, enlivening the village's summer evenings for over a month. The heart of the event is the Gianfranco Trusiano Amateur Theatre Grand Prix, a competition that brings together various companies and concludes with the announcement of the winner.
The festival is named after Gianfranco Trusiano, the first president of the Quattordio Pro Loco and founder of the local drama company, who remains a key figure in the town's cultural life. Dedicating the Grand Prix to him serves to preserve his memory and the passionate spirit with which he fostered community theatre. The 2026 edition holds special significance as it coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Quattordio Pro Loco.
Performances are held in the Corte di UANU, at Via Cavour 20, a cosy and evocative space that offers the audience the feel of a village-scale theatre, where the proximity between actors and spectators makes every evening more intense. The programme alternates between contemporary comedies and great classics, with a focus on irony and reflection.
Alongside the competitive performances, the festival offers non-competitive evenings and moments of civic importance, such as the naming of a public space in memory of Gianfranco Trusiano. The event is organised by the Compagnia di Prosa di Quattordio APS with the support of FITA (Italian Federation of Amateur Theatre), confirming the project's deep roots in the Piedmontese amateur theatre network. For those visiting the Alessandria Monferrato in summer, Notti a Teatro is the perfect opportunity to discover genuine, participatory theatre, far from the mainstream circuits but rich in enthusiasm, in one of Piedmont's most fascinating areas.
The sixth edition of Notti a Teatro, scheduled from 5 June to 9 July 2026 at the Corte di UANU in Quattordio, coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the local Pro Loco. The festival alternates three competitive performances for the Gianfranco Trusiano Amateur Theatre Grand Prix, a special non-competitive event, and the final awards evening, in a season that weaves together theatre, memory, and a sense of community.
